Start with Recently Deleted
- 1. Open PhotosFind Utilities, then Recently Deleted. On current iOS, swipe up to find Utilities.
- 2. Unlock the albumChoose View Album and authenticate if asked.
- 3. RecoverSelect the picture, choose Recover, then confirm.

Also check the Hidden album and confirm that you are signed in to the expected Apple Account. Menus vary by iOS version, so use Apple’s current photo-recovery guide if the album is not where you expect.
Check iCloud Photos and other saved copies
If iCloud Photos is enabled, inspect your library and Recently Deleted on iCloud.com using your own account. Deleting a photo with iCloud Photos generally deletes it across devices using that library. Another synchronized device is therefore not automatically an independent backup.
Look for copies you exported to a computer, an external drive, another photo-backup service, or a message conversation. Confirm that a full-resolution file opens before relying on a thumbnail.
Do not erase the phone just to test a backup
A device backup is useful only if it contains the missing data. Photos already synchronized through iCloud Photos are not duplicated in an iCloud device backup. Check the backup date and what was included before deciding whether a restore will help.
Restoring a backup can replace current device content. Save any newer information first. Finder on Mac and Apple Devices on Windows are current options for working with computer backups; older setups may use iTunes.
If the phone is damaged
A broken screen or a phone that will not start can make existing photos inaccessible. That may call for hardware repair or iPhone data-recovery assessment, rather than deleted-photo software. Tell the technician that preserving the photos is your priority before any erase or restore is considered.

Can permanently deleted photos always be recovered?
No. Recovery depends on whether a copy remains in Recently Deleted, a backup, a cloud service, or accessible device storage. No software or repair shop can guarantee recovery in every case.
Can scanning recover photos after a factory reset?
An iPhone erase destroys the keys needed to read its former local data. Look for backups and separately stored cloud copies instead of expecting a scan to reverse the reset.
