PS5 No Signal? HDMI Checks Before You Book a Repair
BLOGS AND NEWS | September 7, 2026

A PS5 that turns on while the TV says “No Signal” does not automatically need an HDMI port replacement. The cable, selected input, display settings, and console hardware can all affect the picture. A few checks help you describe the problem before bringing the console in.

The PS5 stays on, but the TV says No Signal

Start with the TV input, a known-working cable, and a direct connection to the display. Go to the steps.

The HDMI port looks bent or loose

Do not force a cable into it or hold the plug at an angle. The connector needs inspection. Go to the steps.

This may involve cooling or power behavior as well as the video connection. Note any warning and when it shuts down. Go to the steps.

Rule out the cable and TV input

  • Confirm that the TV or monitor is set to the HDMI input connected to the PS5.
  • With the equipment powered off, check that both ends of the cable fit securely. Do not force a plug into a visibly damaged port.
  • Try a known-working HDMI cable and a different HDMI input or display, if available.
  • Connect the PS5 directly to the display to rule out a receiver, capture device, or other equipment in the signal path.

Sony’s picture troubleshooting guide also covers restarting the equipment and checking the display’s firmware.

Signs the HDMI connection needs inspection

Tell us if the problem began after the console fell, a cable was pulled sideways, or the port became loose. A bent connector or visibly damaged contacts warrant inspection. Do not hold the cable at an angle to keep a picture or try to straighten contacts with a tool.

A port can look normal while another fault affects video output. Inspection helps determine whether the problem is the connector, its connections, or another part of the console. Replacing the port without diagnosis may not solve the issue.

Be careful with Safe Mode choices

  1. 1. Power offTurn the console off before starting the Safe Mode sequence.
  2. 2. Listen for two beepsHold the power button and release after the second beep, about seven seconds later.
  3. 3. Connect the controllerUse a USB cable and press PS. Choose Change Video Output; avoid Reset PS5.

If the console can display Safe Mode, Sony provides a Change Video Output option for display troubleshooting. Follow the official Safe Mode instructions. Avoid reset or system-reinstallation options merely to test an HDMI fault: some options erase user data.

No signal after a shutdown may be a different problem

Explain whether the console stays powered on or shuts down during a game. If it shows a temperature warning or repeatedly switches off, cooling and power behavior need assessment alongside the video connection.

Keep vents clear and avoid an enclosed cabinet. Sony recommends at least 10 cm of free space around each side. PS5 cooling uses liquid metal at the main processor; whether internal cleaning or liquid-metal service is needed depends on inspection. It is not a universal fix for every shutdown.

What to bring and how long it takes

Tell us your PS5 model, whether it stays on, which cables/displays you tested, and whether it suffered a drop or liquid exposure. Mention any previous repair attempt. If requested, bring the cable associated with an intermittent fault.

At iProtech, console repairs are generally ready the same day or next day, depending on diagnosis and parts. We handle HDMI repair, cleaning, and overheating-related service; the exact work is confirmed after inspection.

Frequently asked questions

Does no signal always mean a broken HDMI port?

No. A cable, TV input, intermediary device, or video setting can cause similar symptoms. Physical damage or a persistent fault needs inspection.

Will HDMI repair erase my games?

Port repair does not normally require a factory reset. Discuss data preservation before any software reset or storage-related work.

Can you check overheating too?

Yes. Tell us whether the fan becomes loud, a temperature warning appears, or the console switches off. Cleaning and thermal-interface service depend on the fault found.
